🍂 Fall safely with accident insurance coverage
Fall is a beautiful season — but it also brings slippery leaves, yard work, and shorter days, all of which increase the chance of accidents. If you’ve experienced a recent injury, you might be eligible to file a claim under the MSU Accident Insurance Plan. This plan pays a flat-dollar benefit for covered injuries, giving cash to help cover medical expenses or everyday costs like gas, groceries, or childcare.
Not enrolled yet? Open Enrollment is coming up: November 1 – December 1.
💼 Why Consider the MSU Accident Insurance Plan?
The plan offers comprehensive coverage for employees and their families:
-
Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D): Provides benefits for severe injuries or loss of life.
-
Fractures & Dislocations: Pays a set amount based on the injury.
-
Hospitalization & Intensive Care: Covers hospital confinement and ICU stays.
-
Ambulance Services: Includes ground and air transportation.
-
Medical Expenses & Outpatient Treatment: Assists with doctor visits, therapy, and treatments.
-
Benefit Enhancement Riders: Additional coverage for lacerations, burns, brain injuries, and diagnostic imaging.
Family Coverage: Spouse (50%) and children (25%) can be included.
Affordable Premiums: Voluntary plan with payroll-deducted premiums.
⚠️ Accident Insurance Is Supplemental — Not a Replacement
It’s important to remember that accident insurance does not replace your medical coverage. It supplements your health plan by providing extra financial support when accidents happen:
-
Medical insurance pays for treatments, hospital stays, and medications according to your health plan.
-
Accident insurance pays a flat-dollar benefit for covered injuries, which you can use for medical costs, co-pays, or everyday expenses.
Think of it as a financial safety net: your health plan handles the treatment, while accident insurance helps cover extra costs — giving peace of mind when life takes an unexpected tumble.
👉 Tip: If your fall happens at work, you may be eligible for workers’ compensation. Contact Denise Lofton for reporting guidance, and if your leave exceeds three days, she can advise on FMLA protections and leave coordination.
📅 Open Enrollment: November 1 – December 1
Don’t miss the chance to enroll or make changes to your coverage during Open Enrollment. This is the ideal time to ensure you’re protected for the upcoming year, especially during a season where slips, trips, and falls are more common.
