Veterans Day Events and Veterans Resources.
Veterans Day, originally called Armistice Day, was first observed on November 11, 1919, to mark the end of World War I. In 1938, it became a federal holiday, and in 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all American veterans, both living and deceased.
