Missouri State University employees may be eligible for federal student loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
PSLF forgives the remaining balance on eligible Direct Loans after borrowers make 120 qualifying monthly payments while working full-time for a qualifying employer, such as Missouri State University.
Even if you have not yet reached 120 payments, the U.S. Department of Education recommends submitting a PSLF form annually to certify your employment and track your progress.
Qualifying for PSLF
To qualify for PSLF, you must:
- be employed by a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or qualifying not-for-profit organization(federal service includes U.S. military service);
- work full-timefor that agency or organization;
- have Direct Loans (or consolidate other federal student loans into a Direct Loan);
- repay your loans under an income-driven repayment planor a 10-year Standard Repayment Plan; and
- make a total of 120 qualifying monthly paymentsthat need not be consecutive.
How to Apply for PSLF
Use the PSLF Help Tool to:
- Check whether your employer is in the PSLF database.
- Request a review of your employer’s eligibility if needed.
- Prepare, sign, and electronically submit your PSLF form with employer certification.
- Generate a manual form if electronic submission is unavailable.
