Fall 2023 theatre season opens with “Shakespeare in Love”

The theatre and dance department at Missouri State University begins the 2023-24 theatre season on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. with “Shakespeare in Love.”

The department is buzzing with excitement and preparation in a new venue.

Dr. Daniel Pierce joins Center for Archaeological Research

When a research archaeologist position recently opened at Missouri State University, Dr. Daniel Pierce jumped at the chance to return home.

Pierce, the newest member of the archaeological research team at the Bernice Warren Center for Archaeological Research (CAR), learned of the position while working at a Florida university.

The timing was perfect, Pierce acknowledged, as he was ready to “move on.”

“Missouri State is a homecoming of sorts,” the St. Louis native said. “I never expected to end up back in my home state. But I am glad to be back.”

Art History Alum Kari Mishler accepted into prestigious program

Kari Mishler, a graduate of the Department of Art and Design at Missouri State University, has been accepted into the master’s program in Conservation of Easel Paintings at The Courtauld Institute of Art in London, England.

According to The Courtauld’s website, the institute is a “research-led, independent College of the University of London, with one of the world’s most prestigious programmes of art history, curating and conservation.” The accompanying Courtauld Gallery is known for its collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works.

As part of her studies, Mishler will spend much of her time in Somerset House, located near London’s Thames River, and in the city’s Museum Mile.

Political science and philosophy department launches new Conversation Series

With the goal of fostering civil and reasoned discussion of pressing political questions, the Department of Political Science and Philosophy at Missouri State University will launch a new Conversation Series in October.

The Conversation Series is inspired by the state of American politics and political discussion, according to Department Head Dr. Christopher Lynch.

“We think our college and university should weigh in on issues productively,” Lynch said. “Also, we believe we have the expertise in our department to do so, as well as the desire to bring in experts from other institutions and MSU departments.” [Read more…] about Political science and philosophy department launches new Conversation Series

Missouri State piano faculty perform at Italian festival

Missouri State University’s Dr. Hye-Jung Hong and Dr. Wei-Han Su, piano faculty in the Department of Music, were invited to teach and to perform as guest artists at the IPPA Conero International Piano Festival in Recanati, Italy, August 1-10.

Both professors were invited to the festival through the recommendation of professional peers, according to Hong. “Our reputation as performers and educators drew the attention of the director of the IPPA,” Hong said.
