Paws to the Polls to host second annual Voter Awareness Week Oct. 16-19

Missouri State University’s Paws to the Polls (PTTP) voter education initiative will host its second annual Voter Awareness Week Oct. 16-19, 2023.

This year’s theme is “Spotlight on Local Government.”

Members of PTTP will be available from Oct. 16-19 to register voters and raise awareness about the importance of voting in all elections, according to PTTP faculty coordinator Dr. Suzanne Walker-Pacheco.

“Many students who are registered elsewhere don’t realize that they can vote in Greene County (and even right on the MSU campus) while they live, study and work here,” Walker-Pacheco said. “Paws to the Polls is a resource for the entire campus community, as well as the community at large.

“Honoring Experience: Centering Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2023” event Oct. 9

Missouri State University’s Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta, will host a speaking event, “Honoring Experience: Centering Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2023,” Monday, Oct. 9 from 5-6:30 p.m. in Strong Hall 401.

The event will feature four short presentations on the historical and contemporary experiences with Indigenous American communities, followed by a discussion forum.

Linguistics program hosts 2023 Linguistics Colloquium Series

The linguistics program at Missouri State University has announced its Linguistics Colloquium Series for fall 2023, which will focus on examining words in educational contexts.

The virtual event will take place at noon Oct. 24 via Zoom. The colloquium is open to all students, faculty, staff and anyone interested in these areas of study.

“Diversity: Differences that Brighten the World” collection now showing at Carolla Arts Exhibition Center

Over 70 posters from 15 countries will be on display at the “Diversity: Differences that Brighten the World” exhibition at the Carolla Arts Exhibition Center. The exhibit is available Oct. 6-Nov. 10 and open for First Friday Art Walk Oct. 6 and Nov. 3 from 6-9 p.m.

Consisting of socially conscious designs, the collection was inspired by an international call that asked the question: “What does Diversity mean to you?” The posters focus on the ability to embrace different cultures, belief systems and opposing points of view on a variety of subjects.
