Today we are fortunate to have a Guest Blogger helping us out with knowing more about our Living-learning Communities or LLCs. Zachery Holder is an Assistant Hall Director in our Department and he is working closely with our LLC Program. Here’s some good advice from Zachery!
Living-Learning Communities at Missouri State offer a rewarding adventure to living on campus. Choose to live on a residence hall floor with people who share common commitment to majors, interests, and/or people who are going through similar experiences, just like you! Our communities offer countless opportunities to connect with your fellow peers, faculty, and staff, creating connections that could last a lifetime! LLC programs assist students to learn skills that provide a smoother transition to college.
With now seven distinct communities, there is something for everyone. Whether you know your major you could become part of one of our major specific LLCs such as the NEW Bears Business Community, our Physical Science, Math, and Engineering LLC, or our Future Health Care Professional LLC. If you are still looking ahead to how you are going to create your future, join our Deciding Student LLC. Not to mention if you are looking to work on your fitness goals or simply enjoy the outdoors and recreation, join The Fit and Well LLC! We also offer communities specifically for our First-Year Experience (for first-year college students) as well as those who participate in the LLCs have the opportunity the following year to join the Sophomore-Experience LLC.
The LLC program provides many opportunities for members to develop their leadership skills, communication skills, personal wellness, service opportunities, academic skills, and lifelong friendships. Fun fact: One out of four of our current Residence Life student leaders participated in or is currently part of a LLC! The LLC provides opportunities for you to become a better student; typically LLC floors have higher GPAs than the building averages. Through our Faculty Fellow program you are able to network with faculty and staff, to help you become a better student. Through a commitment to the LLCs you are eligible to participate in the LLC Rewards program. LLC Rewards allows you to collect points for attendance at on-campus events and service projects; you then turn your points in for prizes (FREE STUFF!!!)! All of these great opportunities, lifetime memories, and experiences all come with no added cost to you! It’s a chance of a lifetime and you don’t want to miss out!
