Take Part in National Transfer Student Week Celebrations!

National Transfer Student Week will be October 21-26, 2024. Please join campus partners in celebrating and recognizing transfer students at Missouri State University. We encourage you to share the PDF below with students.

2024 National Transfer Student Week Celebrations

While there will be several events for students, there will also be an event for faculty and staff who work with transfer students. On Monday, October 21, the Academic Advising and Transfer Center, in partnership with the Transfer Advising Committee and the Office of Admissions, will be hosting a transfer-centered advising forum. “Transfer Advising Essentials: What’s New?” will provide attendees with information about exciting updates in academic advising at Missouri State. Updates will be shared on the Transfer Credit Reevaluation and Preapprovals (TCRP) system and National Transfer Student Week, as well as updates from campus advising centers. Registration for the forum is encouraged.

Save the Date for National Transfer Student Week!

The National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) organizes an annual National Transfer Student Week. This year, National Transfer Student Week will be October 21-25, with the theme “Unlocking Potential: Keys to the Transfer Theory”. Missouri State University will have several events throughout the week to celebrate transfer students and transfer advisors. More information will be coming soon!

“Starting college can be a scary transition for many students, including transfers. To help ease student anxieties and encourage transfer students to plug in to campus, the University of North Texas created Eagle for a Day”. Stephanie Brown, executive director of orientation and transition programs at the University of North Texas, shares information on what the “Eagle for a Day” program looks like, as well as application and enrollment rates for students who participate in the program.

Please make plans to attend academic advisor forums in the Fall 2024 semester. All sessions count toward the three hours needed for annual renewal of Master Advisor designation. All faculty and staff are welcome, so please encourage colleagues to participate. Registration is strongly encouraged.

Campbell Keele Receives National Award

Campbell Keele, coordinator of transfer initiatives in the Academic Advising and Transfer Center, has been selected as a recipient of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) “Transfer Champion-Rising Star Award.” This national award is only awarded to four recipients a year. According to NISTS, “the Rising Star Award recognizes professionals who are making important contributions but are relatively new to the transfer field.”

This year’s theme is “Bridging the Gap for Transfer Students”, and will address challenges with respect to student transfer, credit vs non-credit alignment, articulation agreements, and institutional policy. Registration for the 2024 COTA Conference is now open.

Fall 2023 Advisor Forums

There are two advisor forums remaining in the Fall 2023 semester! We encourage you to attend forums as your schedule allows.

“Technology in Advising Updates” will be held on Monday, December 4 from 12:00PM-1:00PM via Zoom. This forum will focus on Banner upgrades and changes in technology, including the new Brightspace forum.

“Advising International Students” will be held on Monday, December 11 from 12:00PM-1:00PM in PSU313. This forum will share valuable information regarding international student enrollment, regulatory parameters, and the overall experience at Missouri State.

Campbell Keele Receives National Award

Campbell Keele, coordinator of transfer initiatives in the Academic Advising and Transfer Center, has been selected as a recipient of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) “Transfer Champion-Rising Star Award.” This national award is only awarded to four recipients a year. According to NISTS, “the Rising Star Award recognizes professionals who are making important contributions but are relatively new to the transfer field.”

Campbell attended Missouri State University as a transfer student after receiving an associate degree in business administration at Three Rivers Community College. At Missouri State, she earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and master’s degree in business administration, and then began her professional career as an academic advisor in 2019. As coordinator, Campbell advises undeclared and Bachelor of General Studies transfer students, chairs the University-wide Transfer Advising Committee, serves as a partner for the Transfer Bears Living Learning Community, offers professional development related to transfer advising, and serves as a point of contact with advising professionals from two-year institutions. In 2022, she planned and implemented the first Transfer Student Week at Missouri State with great success. Partnering with various university offices and resources, she executed multiple events specifically for transfer students as well as a social media campaign spotlighting transfer students throughout the week.

Ross Hawkins, director of the Academic Advising and Transfer Center and Campbell’s supervisor stated, “I have been thoroughly impressed by her commitment to the field of academic advising and the passion she has demonstrated specifically towards advising transfer students. Her energy and enthusiasm to serve students and colleagues is contagious. Campbell is one of the most visible and respected staff members at the University regarding transfer student advocacy.”

Campbell will be recognized at the 2024 NISTS Conference in St. Louis in February for this achievement.
