David Joswick, Technology and Construction Management (TCM) senior instructor, was recently awarded a District Award of Merit for his work with the Boy Scouts. Joswick is one of five recipients awarded the honor by the Ozark Trails Council, Pathfinder District. This is the highest award for scouting volunteers at the district level.
“I am honored to receive the Award of Merit and thankful to have had the chance to be involved with the Pathfinder District,” states Joswick. “It is a very special experience to be able to participate in the development of young men. Being able to see an 11 year old boy go from learning what to take on a camp out to teaching others how to plan an outing, and understand that his fellow scouts are counting on him is incredible.”
Joswick has been involved with the Boy Scouts as an adult leader for five years and currently serves as Assistant Scout Master for Troop 111. He has also been involved with Merit Badge University, an event hosted by TCM the past four years on the Missouri State campus. Merit Badge University helped close to 1,000 scouts as they work to earn merit badges in various areas.
Earlier this month, TCM hosted an additional event on campus – a pinewood derby car build for Scout Reach Cub Scout Packs. 30 TCM student volunteers, along with Joswick, TCM faculty member Richard Gebken, and TCM lab technician Todd Forshee assisted 60 scouts to build pinewood derby cars. The day was filled with sawdust, paint, learning and fun!
Congratulations to David Joswick on this well-deserved honor!
