The Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) has named Dr. Richard Gebken, associate professor of technology and construction management the 2020 ASC International Outstanding Educator.
The ASC Annual International Conference was to be held April 16-19 in Liverpool, England. However, due to COVID-19 it has been postponed until further notice.
“Receiving this award is a great honor, and I am proud to accept it. However, I need to emphasize that the impacts and contributions recognized by the Associated Schools of Construction are more importantly a reflection of the quality students, faculty, and industry supporters we have at Missouri State,” Dr. Gebken said.
The international award is one of the highest awards given by ASC, and it is a great honor for both Dr. Gebken and the TCM department.
“We are very proud of Dr. Gebken for his career accomplishments in construction education,” said Dr. Neal Callahan, department head of technology and construction management. “The ASC Outstanding Educator Award reflects the dedication, energy, and skill that he demonstrates every day for his students.”
About the awards
The ASC Outstanding Educator Award is presented annually to a faculty member with a minimum of 7 years teaching experience from an ASC member school.
Dr. Gebken has taught at Missouri State for 14 years, and he also received the national ASC Teaching Award in 2010.
Each region may forward one name to be considered as a winner. Dr. Gebken was selected as the ASC Region 4 Outstanding Educator, and his name was sent forward this year. Nominees for the international award are chosen from the regional winners.
Overall, the award recognizes the faculty member’s contribution to construction education, excellence in teaching, national/international service to the ASC, and dedication to the construction profession.
