Martin Luther King Jr. Day

January 19
Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday – no classes/offices closed.

Civil Rights leader, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. , gained national prominence during the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott of 1955-1956 and soon becamse the acknowledged national leader of the growing movement to obtain civil rights for African Americans. His commitment to nonviolence, his courage, and the moral power of his vision, eloquently expressed in masterful oratory and writings, won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Toward the end of his life, King became convinced of the interrelatedness of all forms of social, economic, and military oppression and broadened the sphere of his activism. He spoke out against U.S. involvement in the war in Vietnam and was preparing to lead a massive Poor People’s March on Washington when he was assassinated in Memphis on April 14, 1968 while helping to organize the city’s sanitation workers. Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday is observed nationally on the third Monday in January.

Haven

Haven is a required online course for all in-coming freshmen and transfer students to complete to initiate understanding of consent, sexual assault, relationship violence, and bystander intervention. If this course is not completed by the student prior to the student’s spring registration date within the student’s first year at Missouri State University, a Registration Hold will be placed on the student’s account. This hold will be lifted from the account once completion of Haven has occurred.

  2. After signing in, go under the Academics tab and find the New Student or Transfer Student section. Within this square, there is a training section and the Haven link is in this area. To access Haven, choose the link and you can begin.

Monday, January 12 at 8am, Across from PSU Information Desk
Student Activities Council will be kicking off Winter Week by handing out hot chocolate and coffee mugs across from the PSU Info Desk.

Concert: Echosmith

Tuesday, January 13 at 7pm, PSU Theatre
Join Student Activities Council for their FREE Winter Week concert to kick off the new semester.  This year’s concert features the up-and-coming band, Echosmith.  With the smash hit “Cool Kids” sweeping the nation, Echosmith is a indie-pop, rock band comprised of four siblings from California.

Comedy: Adam Newman

Wednesday, January 14 at 7pm, PSU Theatre
Join Student Activities Council for a night of laughs featuring Adam Newman.  Adam’s stand-up has been featured on the Late Night with David Letterman and a half-hour special on Comedy Central.  You may have also seen him on @midnight and Last Week Tonight.  For more information about Adam, check out him out on Twitter @Adam_Newman.

Movie: Divergent

Wednesday, January 14 at 9pm, PSU Theatre
SAC weekly films starts off this semester with Divergent!  Based on the book by Veronica Roth, Divergent is set in a post-apocalyptic world.

In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she’s Divergent and won’t fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it’s too late. (c) IMDB

After Hours: Ice Skate Night

Thursday, January 15 at 9pm, Mediacom Ice Park
As part of the Winter Week festivities, Student Activities Council has rented out Mediacom Ice Park to provide an students with the opportunity to go ice skating for free!

Need a ride to the ice park?  Meet SAC members at the PSU Information Desk to catch a free shuttle that will be riding all night.

Winter Wonderland Rock ‘n Bowl

Friday, January 16 at 7:30pm, Level 1 Game Center
Want to bowl, play ping pong or pool for free?  Student Activities Council has rented out Level One Game Center. Any Missouri State student can join us for free!  For part of Winter Week, Rock’n’Bowl will feature Winter Wonderland themed activities!

Lecture: Laverne Cox: Moving Beyond Gender Expectations

Tuesday, January 20 at 7pm, Juanita K. Hammons Hall
Laverne Cox is a critically acclaimed actress who currently appears in the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black, playing the groundbreaking role of “Sophia Burset,” an incarcerated African American transgender woman. Laverne is the first trans woman of color to have a leading role on a mainstream scripted television show. Time named Sophia Burset the 4th most influential fictional character of 2013.   She transgender advocate who is passionate about telling stories that reflect the transgender experience and the history of nonfiction transgender representation in mainstream media, and learn Cox’s unique story of overcoming challenges to pursue an acting career.

International Day of Disabled Persons

December 3
The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 was established by the International Year for Disabled Persons (1981). The Day aims to promote a better understanding of disability issues with a focus on the rights of persons with disabilities and gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of the political, social, economic and cultural life of their communities. The goal of full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in society and development was established by the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1982.

A major focus of the Day is practical action to mainstream disability in all aspects of development, as well as to further the participation of persons with disabilities in social life and development on the basis of equality. Highlight progress and obstacles in implementing disability-sensitive policies, as well as promote public awareness of barriers to the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in the lives of their societies.

Nominate An Academic Advisor!

Do you know an outstanding academic advisor?

Two Missouri State University Curtis P. Lawrence Excellence in Advising awards will be presented during the spring semester 2015. One will honor a faculty advisor, and one will honor an advisor who is a member of the professional staff. Each recipient will receive a $1,500 cash award, presented at a reception in March.

To nominate an outstanding advisor, please submit the name by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10 to Kathy Davis, director of the Academic Advisement Center. Candidates may be nominated by current students, alumni, or colleagues. Submit the name in an e-mail to kathydavis@missouristate.edu or send a note through campus mail.

Computer Services Scheduled Downtime

December 20
In order to provide the highest level of service to the campus community, the computing and networking systems maintained by Computer Services require occasional downtime. To minimize the need for outages while classes are in session, Computer Services is planning scheduled downtime days during which systems and networking services will not be guaranteed to be available.

Although certain services will be available during all or parts of the scheduled downtimes, departments are encouraged to plan for interruptions of service.

A 3 v 3 wheelchair basketball tournament benefitting the family of Blake Foster, a Missouri state student and Theta Chi Fraternity member who was recently paralyzed in a dirt bike accident. Registration is on IM Leagues . All Proceeds go to Blake and his family. Donations are welcomed. Sponsored by: Campus Recreation, Kinesiology Department, and Theta Chi Fraternity

Hibernotes winter concert, Home For The Holidays, will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the PSU theater.

Hibernotes is the premiere mixed a cappella group on Missouri State University’s campus. The group was formed in the fall of 2012. Hiberntoes has spent their first two years performing at various community and campus events and this will be their second concert! Hibernotes welcomes A Cub Bella as their concert’s opening act!

Please mark your calendars for our traditional late-night breakfast hosted by President Clif Smart.  Breakfast is for all Missouri State students, whether they reside on or off campus.  Serving will begin promptly at 9:00 p.m. and continue until midnight in the Blair-Shannon Dining Center.  There is no cost to students; however, BearPass IDs are required for admission.

Rudolph’s Five and Dime: A Holiday Bazaar

Thursday, December 4 – Friday, December 5 at am, Blair-Shannon Grand Lounge
It is that time of year again for Rudolph’s Five & Dime: A Holiday Bazaar! This event will be in the Blair-Shannon Grand Lounge (across from the Plaster Student Union).  Rudolph’s will be held on Thursday, December 4, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Friday, December 5, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  On Friday, there will be an auction at Noon.  There will be lots of exciting gifts at the auction including gift cards and homemade baked goods.  Springfield community vendors and student organizations have put together will be selling all kinds of items from jewelry to scrap booking materials.  Stop by and pick up some last-minute holiday gifts.

All proceeds will go to the Wilda F. Looney Residence Life Leadership Scholarship fund sponsored by the National Residence Hall Honorary.  If you have questions or would like to make a donation, please contact Travis D. Sounds of Christmas Concert

The Pride Band will present its annual, “Sounds Of Christmas” Concert on Sunday, December 7.  The 2 p.m. concert will be in the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.

A variety of musical ensembles, colorful dance groups and the entire marching band will combine to present an exciting introduction to the Christmas season.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Salvation Army Cold Weather Shelter

The Salvation Army offers shelter to the homeless on nights the wind chill reaches 14 degrees or below. Volunteers are needed to help intake the homeless for the cold weather shelter and help supervise. Volunteers are placed on an “on-call” list for nights the wind chill reaches 14 degrees or below. Volunteers work 2 hour shifts from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.  All volunteers must past a background check.

Social Change Leader Applications Due

Tuesday, November 25
Social Change Leaders are students who are committed to the Springfield community through long-term sustainable interactions.  These students will explore the social issues that affect Springfield and through asset based community development, seek solutions to those problems.  Students will participate in critical reflection through bi-monthly dialogues and have discussions that unpack the complex issues that affect our community.

As a Social Change Leader, you would be expected to participate in volunteer activities 3 hours a week at a time that meets your schedule.  Additionally, there will be bi-monthly dialogues where dialogue and discussion occur around the social issue being addressed. Opportunities are available with the Boys and Girls Club, Robberson Community School, The Kitchen, Ozarks Food Harvest, and the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks.

If you are interested in participating, stop by the Center for Community Engagement in PSU 131 to pick up an application. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on November 25th, 2014. Deadline Extended!

Spring Break Immersion Trip Applications Due

Tuesday, November 25
Applications for the 2015 Spring Break Immersion Trips are now available! Do you want to spend your Spring Break doing something fun and meaningful? The Spring Break Immersion Trips are week-long experiences in which students are immersed in a new culture, group of people, and experience. Trips include direct service with local agencies, learning about a specific social issue, social time in the destination city, and time to meet other students. This year, our trips will be going to Dallas, TX, New Orleans, LA, Chicago, IL, Indianapolis, IN, and Ashville, NC, as well as a local trip right here in Springfield.

If you are interested in participating, stop by the Center for Community Engagement in PSU 131 to pick up an application or apply here. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on November 25th, 2014. Deadline Extended!

Native American Heritage Month

November 1-30
In response to an effort by many to gain a day of recognition for the great influence American Indians have had upon the U.S., Congress designated a week of October to celebrate Native American Awareness Week in 1976. Yearly legislation was enacted to continue the tradition until August 1990, when President Bush approved the designation of November as National American Indian Heritage Month. Each year a similar proclamation is issued. President Clinton noted in 1996, “Throughout our history, American Indian and Alaska Native peoples have been an integral part of the American character. Against all odds, America’s first peoples have endured, and they remain a vital cultural, political, social, and moral presence.” November is an appropriate month for the celebration because it is traditionally a time when many American Indians hold fall harvest and world-renewal ceremonies, powwows, dances, and various feasts. The holiday recognizes hundreds of different tribes and approximately 250 languages, and celebrates the history, tradition, and values of American Indians. National American Indian Heritage Month serves as a reminder of the positive effect native peoples have had on the cultural development and growth of the U.S., as well as the struggles and challenges they have faced.

Panamanian Independence Month

November 1-30
The Fiestas Patrias (literally ‘Homeland Festivals’) mark the process by which Panama achieved independence from Spain in 1821, then Colombia in 1903, and (more empirically) from the United States with the handover of the Panama Canal in 1999. The celebration extends over the entire month of November, with various days singled out for their respective honors.

Transgender Day of Remembrance

November 20
Transgender Day of Remembrance is a day to memorialize those who have been killed as a result of transphobia, or the hatred or fear of transgender and gender non-conforming people, and acts to bring attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community. The Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded in 1998 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transgender graphic designer, columnist and activist to memorialize the murder of Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts. Since its inception, Transgender Day of Remembrance has been held annually on November 20th, and has slowly evolved from the web-based project started by Smith into an international day of action. In 2010, Transgender Day of Remembrance was observed in over 185 cities throughout more than 20 countries. Typically, a Transgender Day of Remembrance includes a reading of the names of those who lost their lives during the previous year and may include other actions, such as candlelight vigils, art shows, food drives, film screenings, marches, among others.

International Day of Disabled Persons

December 3
The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 was established by the International Year for Disabled Persons (1981). The Day aims to promote a better understanding of disability issues with a focus on the rights of persons with disabilities and gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of the political, social, economic and cultural life of their communities. The goal of full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in society and development was established by the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1982.

A major focus of the Day is practical action to mainstream disability in all aspects of development, as well as to further the participation of persons with disabilities in social life and development on the basis of equality. Highlight progress and obstacles in implementing disability-sensitive policies, as well as promote public awareness of barriers to the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in the lives of their societies.

Haven

Haven is a required online course for all in-coming freshmen and transfer students to complete to initiate understanding of consent, sexual assault, relationship violence, and bystander intervention. If this course is not completed by the student prior to the student’s spring registration date within the student’s first year at Missouri State University, a Registration Hold will be placed on the student’s account. This hold will be lifted from the account once completion of Haven has occurred.

Jennifer M. Jones, National President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) will be on campus to visit with students, faculty and staff about the history and movement of the nine historically African American Greek Letter organizations.

Jennifer M. Jones is the Executive Director of Student Life at Southern Methodist University where she has been employed for the past 29 years, 16 of those years in various positions within Residence Life and Student Housing.  She also served as the as the SMU NPHC advisor for eight years.  She currently serves as the National President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.  She has also served as the past National First Vice President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and Regional Secretary for the Southwestern Region of NPHC.

At the age of 18, Rebekka became a Playboy Playmate after being chosen to be Miss September 1986, a culmination of her childhood dream. For the next four years, she led an exciting life as a Playmate, traveling, modeling, and attending star-studded parties. However, she was often tired and bruised easily. At the age of 22, she was diagnosed with HIV.She has become an outspoken activist to increase AIDS awareness and fight for progress in discovering improved medications and treatment.

Applications

The Student Organization Funding Allocation Council (SOFAC) will start accepting proposals early for SPRING funding starting at 8:00am on Monday, November 24th 2014.

SOFAC funding may be requested for many types of events including conferences, competitions, speakers, equipment, and more! Proposals should be submitted to the Office of Student Engagement in PSU 101. If you are considering submitting a proposal for Spring funding, please keep the following things in mind:

  • To qualify for Spring funding, the event must occur between February 1 and June 30, 2015. We will not accept any proposal that do not fall within this time period.
  • Any funding already received by your organization will be subtracted from the amount available to your organization for the remainder of the 2014-2015 academic year.
  • You will be expected to abide by all SOFAC and Missouri State University policies.
  • You MUST attend a SOFAC training session to receive funding. *new to this year
    • Training session dates and times can be found on the SOFAC website or Missouri State master calendar. You must attend a session before you can receive funds; you can attend a session any time before your potentially assigned allocation meeting.
    • If you attended Training in the fall you do not have to attend another one in the Spring.

To request funding for an event, your organization must submit a complete SOFAC Proposal for Funding. Information and instructions on how to complete a proposal can be found on the SOFAC website: http://organizations.missouristate.edu/sofac/

It is highly recommended that you review the SOFAC Guidelines (found on the SOFAC website) before submitting a proposal. There are a few changes from years past, please read carefully. Keep in mind that a proposal MUST be submitted at least 10 business days BEFORE the event for which you are requesting funding.

Social Change Leader Applications Due

Tuesday, November 25
Social Change Leaders are students who are committed to the Springfield community through long-term sustainable interactions.  These students will explore the social issues that affect Springfield and through asset based community development, seek solutions to those problems.  Students will participate in critical reflection through bi-monthly dialogues and have discussions that unpack the complex issues that affect our community.

As a Social Change Leader, you would be expected to participate in volunteer activities 3 hours a week at a time that meets your schedule.  Additionally, there will be bi-monthly dialogues where dialogue and discussion occur around the social issue being addressed. Opportunities are available with the Boys and Girls Club, Robberson Community School, The Kitchen, Ozarks Food Harvest, and the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks.

The Spring Break Immersion Trips are week-long experiences in which students are immersed in a new culture, group of people, and experience. Trips include direct service with local agencies, learning about a specific social issue, social time in the destination city, and time to meet other students. This year, our trips will be going to Dallas, TX, New Orleans, LA, Chicago, IL, Indianapolis, IN, and Ashville, NC, as well as a local trip right here in Springfield.

Every year the U.S. president signs an executive order designating the month of October as National Italian American Heritage Month. Coinciding with the festivities surrounding Columbus Day, the proclamation is recognition of the many achievements, contributions, and successes of Americans of Italian descent as well as Italians in America.

LGBT History Month

October 1-31
LGBT History Month is a month-long annual observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. It is observed during October in the United States, to include National Coming Out Day on October 11. LGBT History Month originated in the United States and was first celebrated in 1994. It was founded by Missouri high school history teacher Rodney Wilson. Spectrum and Advocates, MSU’s LGBT and Ally Alliances, along with the Office of Multicultural Programs provide a month-long series of events on campus to commemorate LGBT History Month. These include dances, panels, film screenings, fundraisers, discussions, art displays, and an annual talent show.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month

October 1-31
In 1988, Congress designated each October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The Office of Disability Employment Policy has the lead in planning NDEAM activities and materials to increase the public’s awareness of the contributions and skills of American workers with disabilities. Various programs carried out throughout the month also highlight the specific employment barriers that still need to be addressed and removed. This effort to educate the American public about issues related to disability and employment actually began in 1945, when Congress enacted a law declaring the first week in October each year “National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week.” In 1962, the word “physically” was removed to acknowledge the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities.

Faith & Life Matters Series: Mark Joslyn

Monday, November 3 at 7pm, Coger Theatre
Mark Joslyn has been in media management and consulting since 1993. During that time he managed the business and financial end of over 750 programs for networks such as A&E, Bio, History, Discovery, National Geographic, MSNBC, Lifetime, and Weather Channel. He studied Finance and Business Administration at the University of Chicago Graham School of Business and has a BFA in Theatre from Missouri State University. Mark was part of the cast of “The Normal Heart” when it was performed at MSU twenty-five years ago. Fall 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of the theatre production that put Springfield, Missouri in the national spotlight.

Halloween in the Halls

Wednesday, October 29 at 5pm, Blair-Shannon House Grand Lounge
The residence hall association and the department of residence life, housing and dining services will be sponsoring a safe indoor Halloween experience for the children ages 2 to 12 of all Missouri State faculty, staff and students. Tours will start at 5:15 p.m. and the last tour will leave the Grand Lounge at 7:30 p.m. The Pumpkin Patch, in the Blair-Shannon Grand Lounge will include check-in, games and refreshments. All floors will be non-scary. Residents of our buildings will be trained to be tour guides known as Pumpkin Pals and will escort the children through the residence halls.

Internationally Renowned Ceramic Artist Lecture

Thursday, October 30 at 7pm, Brick City Room 312
Internationally renowned ceramic artist Richard Hirsch will present a lecture on his work at 7 P.M. on Thursday, October 30. The lecture will take place in Room 312 of Missouri State University’s Brick City Building One, 327 West Mill Street in downtown Springfield.

Richard Hirsch is an internationally renowned ceramic artist who served for many years as a professor in the School for American Craft at Rochester Institute of Technology. His artwork can be found in numerous museum collections both in the US and abroad.

Fall 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of the theatre production that put Springfield, Missouri in the national spotlight. Larry Kramer’s landmark play about love, AIDS and New York in the 1980s chronicles the rise of the AIDS crisis in New York City as seen through the eyes of writer/activist Ned Weeks, the gay Jewish founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group. Ned unexpectedly finds himself at the forefront of the fight against AIDS at a time when the disease was so terrifyingly new it didn’t even have a name. As more and more of his friends fall ill, Ned tries his best to rally support for the cause all the while finding love with Felix and raging against institutions of media, medicine and government that seem determined to ignore him. The play is as dramatically powerful, timely and poignant as it was when it first appeared in 1985. Winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play, this production contains adult language and subject matter.

Public Affairs Convocation Lecture: Eric Greitens

Tuesday, October 28 at 7pm, Juanita K. Hammons Hall
The convocation lecture is free and open to the public, but requires a ticket for entry. Tickets will be available exclusively to current MSU ID holders October 6-9, 2014. Beginning Friday, October 10th tickets become available to the general public as well as to members of the MSU community.

Free tickets can be picked up at the ticket offices of Hammons Hall, for the Performing Arts, JQH Arena or Plaster Student Union.  Tickets may be ordered by phone through the ticket office by calling 417-836-7678, but a $5 shipping and handling fee will apply.

Eric Greitens will reflect on his experiences as both a soldier and a humanitarian.  Eric is a former Navy SEAL, award-winning author, Rhodes Scholar, and Founder and CEO of The Mission Continues. He speaks on living with resilience, and leading with strength and compassion through adverse circumstances. His work as a social entrepreneur, is transforming how America views our veterans.  Greitens will discuss his book, The Heart and the Fist: The Education of a Humanitarian, the Making of a Navy SEAL.

As this year’s common reader for Missouri State University, his book The Heart and the Fist will be on sale at the event with a a book signing following the presentation.

Diwali Celebration

It’s the festival of lights (deep = light and avali = a row i.e., a row of lights) that’s marked by four days of celebration, which literally illumines the country with its brilliance, and dazzles all with its joy. Each of the four days in the festival of Diwali is separated by a different tradition, but what remains true and constant is the celebration of life, its enjoyment and goodness.
Candle holders will be created to celebration of Diwali.

After Hours: Ultimate Frisbee

SAC is hosting an ultimate frisbee tournament. Students will be split into teams at the event and a tournament bracket will be used for the night.

Carlie and Doni are a straight girl/lesbian musical duo that have spent the last 4 years turning their 7 minute musical act into a one hour comedy extravaganza. They were voted Best comedians in L.A. for 2011 by Los Angeles Magazine. You can catch them headlining the Hollywood Improv and at universities and comedy clubs all over the United States. They are a hilarious duo that incorporates silly songs that offer a crude humor for college students.

Halloween Spooktacular at Dickerson Park Zoo

Thursdays – Sundays, October 9-31 at 6:30pm-9pm, Dickerson Park Zoo
Halloween SPOOKTACULAR is the largest on-grounds annual fundraiser for Friends of the Zoo. 2014 is the 31st year of hosting this family friendly, evening Halloween event. Halloween SPOOKTACULAR averages 20,000 attendees, and proceeds from SPOOKTACULAR support the zoo’s Conservation Education and Outreach programs.

About 30 volunteers will be needed each night. Most evenings more than one service group will be used to fulfill the requirements. It is suggested that you select 2 or 3 possible dates for your organization to volunteer in case your first choice is not available. It is very important to be accurate with your RSVP numbers when scheduling volunteer groups so that plans can be made accordingly. In most cases, it is not possible to accommodate groups larger than the nightly requirements, but groups can be split over multiple evenings.
On the evening you are scheduled: Be at the zoo no later than 5:45 p.m. for event orientation and volunteer assignments. Please plan to stay until 9:30 p.m. If you choose to dress in a costume, please make certain it is non-scary & family appropriate! Keep the weather in mind when choosing a costume. Please note: SPOOKTACULAR is an outdoor event and DOES NOT cancel due to poor weather conditions.

All treats are provided by the zoo. Not all volunteers will be handing out treats; at least half will be working activity stations and interactive areas. Princesses and Superheroes: On select nights, when we do not have actual actors in these areas, we would like a couple of volunteers to dress as princesses and superheroes for interaction with kids. If interested, please inquire specifically about these character positions for details and scheduling.

Ozarks Public Broadcasting will be holding its fall fundraiser from October 16th to October 24th. This fundraiser is in place to help raise money for KSMU Public Radio. Stomp Out Hunger

Join Missouri State, Drury, OTC, Evangel and SBU in making a difference both locally and globally through the all collegiate shoe drive.

Donating just one pair of shoes directly helps feed the hungry both in the U.S. and internationally, provides footwear goods for local vendors in developing countries, helps build water purification systems for villages in Kenya and Haiti, as well as impacts educational and healthcare needs.

Shoes will be collected at sites across campus from October 1-24th. The final “shoe-in” will occur on October 24 at 1-4pm at Country Girls Espresso, 2671 E Sunshine St, located next to Schweitzer United Methodist Church!

  • The FRC Haunted Trail is back this year!  Come to the Foster Recreation Center between 9PM-12AM on October 30th for a haunted house through the FRC basement.  Co-sponsored by SAC, we’ll also be providing free food and music on the FRC patio!  This event is FREE for students so you do not want to miss out on this Halloween scare!
  • Mark your calendar for October 27th, it’s Yoga by Jack-O-Lantern!  Get in the Halloween spirit by taking Yoga in a studio lit by jack-o-lanterns.  This special event will be at 7PM and cost only $2.
  • American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification. Register online or in person at the FRC.  Registration deadline is 2 days before each class.  Limited seats are available.  CPR/AED and First Aid are held in the Aquatics Classroom.  CPR is $55 and First Aid is $40.
    • CPR/AED Session 3: November 15 from 8:30am-12:00pm
    • First Aid Session 3: November 15 from 12:30pm-2:00pm

This certification does not fulfill the requirement for MSU nursing students.
