This week’s film schedule is a little different. Freedom Writers will be screened on Wednesday only preceded by a presentation by Erin Gruwell, the teacher that inspired the film. Then Sunday and the following Wednesday will feature The Muppets with no film the Sunday before spring break. Look for a preview of The Muppets next week.
Freedom Writers tells the story of “a young teacher (Hilary Swank) that inspires here class of at-risk students to learn tolerance, apply themselves, and pursue education beyond high school.” – IMDB
The film has received a 69% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes with the consensus:
“Freedom Writers is a frank, formulaic entry in the inspirational inner-city teacher genre, with an energetic Hilary Swank leading the appealing cast of unknowns.” – Rotten Tomatoes
What makes this film screening special is the presentation by the teacher who inspired the film, Erin Gruwell, immediately before the film. Do not miss the chance to meet the woman who flipped the perspective of many overlooked students and changed their lives forever.
Catch Erin Gruwell at 7 PM in the PSU Theater followed by Freedom Writers at 9 PM this Wednesday.
