The Missouri Travel Council has awarded two $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing hospitality, travel and tourism related majors. Applications were received from students at Missouri State University, Ozarks Technical Community College, as well as the University of Central Missouri. This year’s winners are:
• Kasey Eberth, a sophomore from Kansas City, MO, attending Missouri State University. He is majoring in Hospitality and Restaurant Administration with a minor in Marketing (Advertising and Promotion.)
• Brice Bube, a sophomore from Valley Park, MO, attending Missouri State University. He is majoring in Hospitality and Restaurant Administration with a minor in Spanish.
The Missouri Travel Council awards the “Bob Smith Tourism Scholarship” annually and over the past 18 years has provided $30,000 in scholarships to 30 students in colleges and universities from across the state of Missouri. The scholarship is named in recognition and appreciation of R.B. “Bob” Smith III, an icon and long time employee of the Missouri Division of Tourism, who served in a number of capacities over the years including Deputy Director and Interim Director.
Scholarship applicants are required to meet several criteria, including being a full-time student at an accredited college or university in Missouri with a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants are required to complete a Scholarship Application Form, along with providing a narrative that provides scholarship judges with insight into their academic activities / achievements, community involvement, hospitality/tourism related experience (work or volunteer) and goals / future career plans including a statement of why they are pursuing a career in a hospitality, travel and tourism related field.
