Spring 2024 BFA in Design Exhibition on view April 29-May 10

The BFA in Design: Professional Design Practicum exhibition is now on view at the Carolla Arts Exhibition Center April 29-May 10 and for First Friday Art Walk May 3, 6-9 p.m.

The exhibit features the works portfolios and client-based projects of seniors in the Department of Art and Design’s BFA in Design program.

Many students will display supplemental materials in their exhibits, including business card takeaways, portfolio materials and tangible products such as branded t-shirts and mugs.

Students in the BFA design program are required to work with clients to demonstrate their mastery of design concepts and skills developed throughout their years of coursework.

The students work with a variety of businesses and organizations, from local internal projects for Missouri State to industries around the globe.

2024 Juried Student Art Exhibition on view March 25-April 12

The Department of Art and Design’s Juried Student Exhibition is on view March 25-April 12 at the Carolla Arts Exhibition Center and for First Friday Art Walk, April 5 from 6-9 p.m.

This year’s exhibition was juried by Kansas City-based artist Steve Snell.

About the juror

Inspired by the mythology and popular culture of American history and Western landscape, Steve Snell explores and critiques narratives in the form of paintings, videos and local adventures.

Snell earned his master of fine arts degree in studio art from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2011 as well as a bachelor of fine arts in painting and bachelor’s degree in art education from Miami University in 2006.

Snell’s work has been shown in galleries and film festivals across the country. He has been an Artist-in-Residence at the Tallgrass National Preserve in Kansas, the Teton ArtLab in Wyoming, and along the Chilkoot Trail in Alaska and British Columbia, sponsored by the National Parks Service and Parks Canada.

Snell is an associate professor of art at the Kansas City Art Institute.

About the exhibition

The Juried Student Exhibition recognizes the work of undergraduate and graduate students while introducing them to the professional exhibition experience.

Potential exhibitors must complete an application process and undergo formal jurying by an external expert.

Fall 2023 BFA in Design Exhibition on view Dec. 1-15

The Fall 2023 exhibition of work by graduating students in the BFA in Design program is now on view at the Carolla Arts Exhibition Center Dec. 1-15.

Showcasing real-world client projects

The exhibit gives students the opportunity to showcase their final design portfolios as well as their client-based projects, which are developed during their final semester. With these projects, students work with clients on issues related in some way to design to help them succeed professionally.

Professor Jacek Fraczak, who teaches the Professional Design Practicum class, described the typical client as a small business or non-profit who needs help with branding, logo design, re-design or visual promotion. “Diversity: Differences that Brighten the World” collection now showing at Carolla Arts Exhibition Center

Over 70 posters from 15 countries will be on display at the “Diversity: Differences that Brighten the World” exhibition at the Carolla Arts Exhibition Center. The exhibit is available Oct. 6-Nov. 10 and open for First Friday Art Walk Oct. 6 and Nov. 3 from 6-9 p.m.

Consisting of socially conscious designs, the collection was inspired by an international call that asked the question: “What does Diversity mean to you?” The posters focus on the ability to embrace different cultures, belief systems and opposing points of view on a variety of subjects.

“The Figure, Reclaimed” exhibit at Carolla Arts Exhibition Center

Missouri State University honors the Renaissance of the female form in its summer exhibition, “The Figure, Reclaimed: A Renaissance of the Body in Visual Culture.” Co-curated by Director of Exhibitions Jodi McCoy and MFA student and Mara Cressey, the exhibit is on view at the Carolla Arts Exhibition Center from July 5-August 4 and is open from 6-8 p.m. during the August 4 First Friday Art Walk.
