When someone is in the hospital it can be an overwhelming experience: there are many professionals in and out of the room giving different pieces of advice focused on their own area of expertise.

“What we want our students to do is clearly understand their area of practice, but also understand how they can work together with other professionals,” said Natalie Allen, clinical instructor of biomedical sciences at Missouri State. “Our students are trying to look at a bigger perspective on how we all fit together to provide the best outcome for the patient.”

To help make the patient experience more cohesive and easier to understand, three departments within the College of Health and Human Services are piloting an Interprofessional Education Program (IEP) to show their students how they fit together as part of a health care team.
