Hundreds of third through sixth grade students from the local area will take a journey on Sept. 25. They will visit the International Culture Fair, hosted by Missouri State University’s modern and classical languages department.
“It’s essentially a trip around the world,” said Dr. Heidi Backes, coordinator of the event. “Students get a bag and a passport booklet. They visit 12 different booths, each representing a different country. Then they do a particular activity related to the culture of each of those places.”
Volunteers are needed to help run the booths, escort the children, ease the transitions or share their knowledge. Backes says that she needs in excess of 300 volunteers for this one-day event.

“One of the best ways that we, as a languages department, can help the community to explore these types of cultures and languages is by hosting events like this,” she said.
