Tent Theatre’s “Serving Up Smiles” theme promises a season of unique shows, restaurant-inspired fun and exceptional talent. 

This summer marks the second full season in the John Goodman Amphitheatre. Audience members can expect three new shows, along with other treats. 

“There will be more premium seat options than in years past,” said Mark Templeton, managing director of theatre and dance. “Those will be the first seats to go, so purchase your tickets early.” 

The 62nd season kicks off June 6.

About the shows 

The lineup includes three shows:  

• Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, June 6-8, 10-15 – It’s 1958, and pop music fills the airwaves. Against the wishes of her mother, a 16-year-old girl sets off for Manhattan to pitch her latest original tune to music publisher/producer Donnie Kirshner, who buys the song and asks for more. This musical traces King’s journey from the early days of her romantic and musical collaboration with Gerry Goffin, to the 1971 release of her breakthrough solo album, “Tapestry,” and her first live concert performance at Carnegie Hall.
• Crimes of the Heart, June 21-22 – Old resentments simmer and passions bubble up in the Magrath family kitchen in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where three sisters have reunited for the first time in five years. This Southern Gothic comedy makes the women’s journey of self-discovery both touching and hilarious.
• Mystic Pizza, July 5-6, 8-13 – It’s summer in the seaside town of Mystic, Connecticut, where Kat, JoJo and Daisy are waitresses at the local pizza parlor.  It’s a moving coming-of-age story set to a soundtrack of 1980s and ‘90s mega-hits.

All shows start at 8 p.m. in the John Goodman Amphitheatre. 

There are season and single, standard and premium tickets, as well as group rates. 

“I think one of the great aspects of Tent Theatre is that we are very consistent with the product we produce,” Templeton said. “This year will be very similar to last year and we encourage guests to bring their family and friends.”
