On July 1, 2025, Dr. Gary Michelfelder will become the new director of the School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability. Spending the last 15 years studying the Rio Grande Rift and the Andes Mountains in Chile, his research aims to answer how and why volcanoes erupt in hopes to improve forecasting.
