Missouri State University’s Katherine Ter Kuile, graphic design student in the Department of Art and Design, participated in a highly competitive summer internship at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Kuile is already an award-winning artist, having received a Silver from American Advertising Awards for a personal stationery design. She has also been recognized by the National Student Show and Conference for her poster “Make Jazz, Not War.”
“Dream internship” becomes reality

Kuile was seeking valuable internship experience, as well as a “change of scenery,” when she applied for the internship in Boston. Having applied to several other internships, she barely hoped that she would land her “dream internship.”
When the museum asked to interview her for the position, Kuile was “thrilled and shocked.”
During her internship, Kuile worked as an Exhibition Graphic Design intern, helping with exhibit installations and productions such as signage and typography. In particular, Kuile worked on the Tender Loving Care Special Exhibition, which took two months to install.
“Don’t settle or stand in your own way”
Kuile encourages other students not to give up when searching for and applying to internships.
“Shoot for the highest one you want,” she advised. “Don’t settle or stand in your own way, and don’t think you can only go locally. You learn a lot through applying and if you have a goal internship [then] apply, because you never know.”
Kuile plans to move to the east coast after graduation and hopes to continue working as a graphic designer for museums.
