Missouri State University’s Department of Political Science and Philosophy will once again host its “Conversation Series” April 9 with “Trump’s America: A Nation at a Crossroads?”
The event will begin at 4 p.m. in Glass Hall, Room 101, with refreshments served at 3:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Civil conversation between a Democrat and a Republican
Two influential authors and educators, a Democrat and a Republican, will discuss Donald Trump’s electoral victory and presidency. What does it mean for, and about, America, and why did he win?
The two speakers will conduct a civil conversation based on their knowledge of, and long experience in, American politics.
“This will be a lively discussion,” said Dr. Christopher Lynch, head of the political science and philosophy department. “Not a fight, not even a debate, but a conversation between two experts who disagree sharply about the meaning of ‘Trump’s America’ while agreeing even more about the need for calm reflection and discussion.”
Dr. William Galston is a senior fellow and the Ezra K. Zilkha Chair in the Governance Studies program at the Brookings Institution. He served in President Clinton’s White House and advised numerous Democratic presidential candidates.
Dr. Charles Kesler is a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute, a think tank that is influential in the Trump administration. He is also the Dengler-Dykema Distinguished Professor of Government at Claremont McKenna College.
“We are very fortunate to have these particular speakers to discuss this incredibly timely and important topic,” Lynch said. “Both draw on deep philosophical resources and careful study of American politics to help the rest us understand this crucial political moment in terms we can all grasp.”
