Bear With Me

November 20, 2017 by Summer Reid

*This article was written by Tara Orr. Tara is a freshman, Marketing major from Blue Springs, MO!*

Hey Bears! SGA’s Administrative Service Committee has some exciting news about a new program coming to Missouri State in Spring 2018 called Bear With Me. Bear With Me is a program designed to give students the chance to work off a parking ticket with community service hours! Cool right? The program is simple. Those who receive a parking ticket (lower than $50) have the opportunity to complete 2 hours of community service within 15 days of receiving the ticket in order to waive the fine. This unique program allows you to save your money and give back to the Springfield community at the same time!

The terms of this program are:

  • The ticket must be issued by Missouri State University Safety and Transportation
  • The ticket cannot be valued more than $50.00
  • No citation issued due to illegal parking in a handicap space can be replaced with service hours
  • Only one ticket per student in an academic year can be converted by this program
  • The program ends after $3,000 worth of parking citations have been worked off

A student on the Administrative Service team shared her thoughts with us on the new program, “I think Bear With Me is an amazing way for students to get engaged in the community! Hopefully after doing the two hours of service required, they will enjoy it so much they will want to go back and help out the community even more. It makes getting a parking ticket not so bad.”

SGA Asks Administrators to Make Weekend BearLine Route Permanent

April 10, 2012 by Paige Oxendine

After a successful trial run during the first half of the spring semester, SGA has asked administrators to make the weekend BearLine route permanent.

The Pink Route, which runs to downtown Springfield from 6 pm to 2 am on Friday and Saturday nights, has averaged over 350 riders per weekend with no reported incidents. The shuttle makes stops at Park Central Square, Plaster Student Union, Hammons Student Center, Scholars House, Kentwood Hall, and Greek Row.

SGA’s suggestion comes as a response to the high number of students utilizing the route during the trial run as well as the need for a safe mode of transportation between the downtown area and campus on weekend evenings.

The Pink Route is funded by Residence Life and Services and the Department of Safety and Transportation.

BearLine Shuttles Introduce Extended Schedule

January 19, 2012 by Paige Oxendine

Missouri State University’s BearLine shuttle service has expanded its schedule as part of a pilot program to offer students transportation to the downtown Springfield area on Friday and Saturday nights.

The new route will run from 6:00 pm to 2:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays with stops at the Plaster Student Union, Scholars House, Greek Row, Kentwood Hall, Park Central Square, and Hammons Student Center.

Missouri State’s Student Government Association worked extensively with university administrators in the development of the pilot program, which will run until Spring Break. At the end of the pilot program administrators will make a decision as to whether or not the extended route will be permanent.

SGA Moves to Place Student Printer in Plaster Student Union

September 27, 2011 by Paige Oxendine

Student Government Association’s Administrative and Information Services Committee moved to make students’ time on campus a little bit easier this week, as they introduced a resolution that would place a printer on the first floor of the Plaster Student Union.

Students currently have access to a small computer lab on the second floor, but are unable to print from within the student union. On September 20, 2011, SGA approved Resolution GB Fall 2011-01, which asks that a printer set aside by Computer Services be relocated to the Plaster Student Union and set up for student use. The printer will allow students to print from computers located on the first floor of the PSU.

The initial cost of installing the printer will be approximately $150.00, with an additional $5.00 a month for operating expenses. This funding will come from the Student Organization Funding Allocation Council.

Printing will operate at the same rate as it currently does in other computer labs on campus, withdrawing .08 cents per page from a student’s BearPrint account. With the printer already available on campus, SGA estimates that the printer will be installed within the next two weeks.

For more information, please contact Paige Oxendine, Chief Communications Officer, at Oxendine100@live.missouristate.edu.
