As if being a professional basketball player and corporate sales leader wasn’t impressive enough, Will Allen can now add MacArthur “Genius” Grant winner, author and CEO to his resume. Allen not only founded Growing Power Inc., he is also known as one of the preeminent agriculture and food policy thinkers of our time.

Allen wrote “The Good Food Revolution” to share his story and discuss how his grassroots movement is changing the way the country eats. Allen believes that we must have healthy food systems in order to have healthy communities.

He will address the Missouri State University and Springfield communities at the 2017 Fall Convocation.

Community Engagement Project: United Way Student Day of Service

Want to help alleviate poverty in the Ozarks but don’t have much time? Gather with fellow citizen Bears for a day of service on May 6. MSU students are taking the public affairs mission to the streets of Zone 1 (Northwest Springfield) in an effort to help clean up neighborhoods in the area.

Do your part as a #CitizenBear!

Community Engagement Project: Bear Blitz

Want to help alleviate poverty in the Ozarks but don’t have much time? You can contribute as little as an hour during the Community Engagement Project: Bear Blitz. MSU students, alumni, faculty and staff are taking the Public Affairs Mission to the streets of Zone 1 (Northwest Springfield) the week of Nov. 14-19 in an effort to help families overcome the challenges they face.

Social Media Kit: Public Affairs Convocation 2016

Sonia Nazario won a Pulitzer Prize for the feature that became Enrique’s Journey, the story of a Honduran boy searching for his mother in the U.S. Her book has become a popular choice for book groups and civic discussions. Nazario recently published a young adult version to include a younger audience in the national conversation about immigration.

Nazario is a projects reporter for the Los Angeles Times, specializing in social issues like hunger, drug addiction and immigration. She also serves as an advocate for unaccompanied immigrant children and Latino college students.

Nazario will address the Missouri State and Springfield communities at the 2016 Fall Convocation.
