Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone, by Simon Sinek
“Start With Why” is a leadership book popular in many office book clubs around the nation. Author Simon Sinek says he hopes his book will be read by those “who want to inspire others and for those who want to find someone to inspire them.” Sinek believes that coming back to the root of “why” will help people find inspiration and fulfillment in their careers. He takes an inspirational leadership stance and uses examples of success that many are familiar with, such as Apple, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Wright brothers.
Sinek believes the “why” is what inspires people, not the “what” we do, or even “how” we do things. The “what” and the “how” are really just the results; the “why” is what moves us forward and allows for change in people, organizations and movements. Sinek says it’s simple: “It doesn’t matter what you do, it matters why you do it.”
His idea of exploring the “why” behind what we do became so popular that Sinek gave a TED talk in 2009 and it is now on the list of TED talks’ top 20 videos. To view the complete conversation click HERE.
