In the spring each year the Fashion and Interior Design Department hosts two events showcasing senior work and achievements; the Interior Design Senior Show and the Fashion Show. Both events allow students to share and celebrate the culmination of what they have learned at Missouri State.
“Participating in the Interior Design Senior Show was very rewarding. It is great to have an event like this to share everything I have learned in the last four years with family and friends. The event is a lot of hard work, but a great way to celebrate finishing the program,” states senior Charity Evans.
The Interior Design Senior Show was held on April 4 at the Veridian event space in downtown Springfield. The event was a part of the monthly First Friday Art Walk so attendees were not only students, family members, and friends, but also members of the Springfield community. Sixteen senior students each had a display booth area to showcase classroom projects of their choosing that they had completed during their time in the program. Many displayed floor plans, booklets, lighting designs, furniture designs, and display boards with potential elevations, perspectives and potential materials.

During the evening three members of the Springfield Design Association (SDA) served as judges for the student work. Judges included: Cathleen Frank, CCF Interior Design & Project Management and SDA president; Kari Smith, Resource Room and SDA vice president; Maria Cass, designer for JQH and SDA board member. The following students were honored at the show for their work:
First Place-Shannon Brown
Second Place-Emily Lipe
Third Place-Samantha Lurvey
The annual Fashion Show was held April 12 at the Springfield Expo Center. This year’s show was titled Reflect 2014. Students majoring in fashion design presented selected original designs, and seniors each presented a complete collection of five different designs with one cohesive theme or look. Senior students in the fashion merchandising program were in charge of producing the show including logistics, fundraising, publicity, and behind the scenes work on the day of the show.
The show went off without a hitch and was attended by approximately 950 guests . Four senior students were honored at the conclusion of the show for their outstanding work within their major:

Best Merchandiser-Morganne Hall
Best Designer-Reyna Lay and Charley Ryals
Overall Highest GPA- JoAnn Nussbaum
“Coordinating this fashion show allows students to gain real world experience (fundraising, marketing, money management, scheduling and conflict resolution) prior to graduation. It is always fun to watch the students grow throughout this process and seeing them in awe of themselves when it all comes together,” says Jenifer Roberts, assistant professor.
