Dr. Ismet Anitsal, department head of marketing at Missouri State University, has shown dedication to providing advice and advocacy to new faculty members.
He recently received the Bear Bridge Outstanding Mentoring for Faculty award.
“It’s encouraging to me to be recognized,” Anitsal said. “My hope is more faculty members will join this great program as mentors and mentees.”
Supporting new faculty members
The Bear Bridge Mentoring Program for Diverse Faculty fosters collaboration between junior and senior faculty during the tenure track process.
Diversity, equity and inclusion is central to its mission. Anitsal believes creating an inclusive work environment is imperative for productivity.
He became involved with Bear Bridge after connecting with program director, Dr. Judith Martinez. Their mutual dedication to creating an inclusive and diverse campus culture led him to become a mentor.
“It’s been a great privilege to offer mentorship to new faculty members,” Anitsal said.
“It’s helpful for our mentees to have someone they can go to for advice or with questions when they’re starting out.”
Sharing experiences
Anitsal was chosen for the award for his exceptional mentoring to junior faculty during their tenure track process.
One of his mentees is Dr. Gawon Yun, assistant professor of logistics and supply chain management at Missouri State. She credits Anitsal for his willingness to share his experience in research, teaching and service.
“I joined Bear Bridge in 2020 and greatly appreciate the opportunity to build relationships with senior faculty members,” Yun said.
“Dr. Anitsal has been more than willing to provide feedback and share his experiences with me in our meetings.”
