Meet Camila Moreno! Moreno is from Rosario, Argentina, and began the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Missouri State University in the spring of 2022.
Bringing high energy to the U.S.
Moreno came to the U.S. in 2017 to pursue her education and play for the tennis team at University of Pittsburgh.
“In Argentina, it’s impossible to attend school and play sports at the same time,” Moreno said. “I was excited by the opportunity to do both on scholarship.”
When the tennis team was cut from the athletics program at Pittsburgh, she transferred to University of South Alabama. There, she completed her bachelor’s degree in international business and continued her collegiate tennis career.
“Argentinians are known for bringing a lot of energy to college sports,” Moreno said. “We have a lot to offer – our different opinions and perspectives help everyone grow.”
She came to Missouri State in 2022 after accepting a graduate assistantship with the athletics department. She is now pursuing her MBA with a certificate in Sports Management.
Moreno plans to work in the U.S. after her graduation in May 2023.
“I’d like to combine my two interests but I’m open to anything,” Moreno said. “I don’t ever want to limit myself.”
The international student experience
Moreno found immediate support upon her arrival in the U.S.
“American universities work hard to include everyone and provide extra support to international students, especially in athletics,” Moreno said. “My professors were super understanding as well.”
Today, Moreno offers the same support she received to new international athletes at Missouri State. Her personal experiences as a seasoned international student allow her to give advice and lend a helping hand.
Her best advice: “Don’t be shy just because you’re from a different culture or don’t have perfect language skills,” Moreno said. “People here are super welcoming and want to help, so don’t be afraid of communicating and connecting with others.”
