The Hospitality and Restaurant Administration department hosted a successful Culinary Educators’ Workshop in July on Missouri State’s campus. Culinary educators from high schools across the state were invited to gain more knowledge in preparing their students for culinary competitions such as ProStart, SkillsUSA and FCCLA (Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America).
The workshop covered topics such as menu development, the art of food, mistakes and penalties during competition and culinary skills. The educators were able to tour the new HRA facility and also work in the new, state of the art culinary lab. Workshop presenters included HRA faculty Melanie Grand and John Carter, Director of Training and Marketing at SGC Foodservice.
The department was extremely thankful for the support from SGC Foodservice at this year’s workshop. John’s expertise in menu design and industry experience were extremely beneficial to the educators. This is an area in competition where teachers often seek assistance and guidance. Connecting the industry with those teaching our future hospitality leaders is a great thing!
