Benefit Spotlight: Critical Illness Insurance

Critical illness is a supplemental policy that helps some of the financial burden if you or a covered dependent is diagnosed with a covered illness. Critical illness insurance pays a lump sum benefit directly to you.

How it works:

  • Select a Benefit premium amount to meet your needs.
  • If you are diagnosed with a covered Critical illness, file a claim a receive a lump sum benefit.
    • Payment can be utilized however you see fit. Use it for things such as: additional medical bills, medical travel, or every day household expenses.
  • Plan options include wellness/preventative screening benefit that may be claimed yearly.

Meeting your needs:

  • Guaranteed issue coverage with pre-existing condition limitation.
  • Coverage can include your dependents.
  • Benefits paid regardless of other medical or disability plan coverage.

Services covered

This plan pays benefits for diagnosis of covered critical illnesses. See plan brochure for additional details, limitations and exclusions. Covered spouses get 50% of the benefit amount.

  • Plan 1 includes benefits up to $10000 for Heart attack, stroke, Major organ transplant, end stage renal failure, Invasive Cancer, Benign Brain Tumor, Coma, Complete blindness, complete loss of hearing, and paralysis, as well as a $2500 benefit for coronary artery bypass surgery, carcinoma in situ, Advanced Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Benefits also include a wellness benefit of $100 per year for completing a covered wellness/preventative screening.
  • Plan 2 includes benefits up to $20000 for Heart attack, stroke, Major organ transplant, end stage renal failure, Invasive Cancer, Benign Brain Tumor, Coma, Complete blindness, complete loss of hearing, and paralysis, as well as a $5000 benefit for coronary artery bypass surgery, carcinoma in situ, Advanced Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Benefits also include a wellness benefit of $100 per year for completing a covered wellness/preventative screening.

Action must be taken by you if you would like to enroll in or change benefit elections during Open Enrollment (Nov. 1 – Dec. 1, 2023). Policy enrollments/changes will be effective January 1, 2024. View more information at the Virtual Benefits fair.
