🌿 Longevity Literacy: Living Better, Not Just Longer

September 23, 2025 by Deidre Mings

From the Health plan wellness incentive to the EAP, MSU offers resources that help you live not just longer, but better.

The World Economic Forum reminds us: to thrive in a 100-year life, we need more than financial literacy — we need longevity literacy.

That means building a sustainable life around three pillars:
✨ Quality of Life
✨ Purpose
✨ Financial Resilience

How MSU Supports Your Longevity Literacy

  • 🏥 Strategies to Improve Your Healthspan
    • Preventive Care: Year-round biometric screenings and annual flu vaccinations — both included in this year’s wellness incentive — along with routine check-ups and services like the mammogram bus help detect risks early. MSU also partners with Mercy’s Care Management and Collaborative Care for holistic support.
    • Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Campus Recreation’s Outdoor Adventures, Employee Wellness classes (Tai Chi, yoga, Fab, Fit & Fun), and regular activity help boost long-term health.
    • Mental Wellbeing: On-site mental health services at Magers, integrated behavioral health through Mercy, and EAP to support resilience.
    • Financial Wellbeing: Tools like retirement planning, flex spending, and savings accounts help reduce stress and allow you to focus on wellness.
  • đź’¬ Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Free, confidential services are available 24/7/365 to employees and their household members. The EAP supports mental health, stress management, family challenges, and work-life balance — key for building both quality of life and purpose.
  • 🌟 2026 Health Plan Discount- Wellness Incentive
Complete at least two activities — the educational questionnaire (Nov. 1–Dec. 1), a flu vaccination (Aug. 1–Dec. 1), or a biometric screening (Jan. 1–Dec. 1) — to earn your health plan discount by Dec. 1.

    • Biometric screenings must include A1C and Lipid panel results.
    • If completed outside Magers Health & Wellness, submit records to MagersMedicalRecords@MissouriState.edu with the subject line “Flu Vaccination” or “Biometric Screening” as appropriate.
