The documentary film “A Towering Task: The Story of the Peace Corps,” will be shown during Missouri State University’s Public Affairs Week September 25, 2023, in Karls Hall 101 from 4-6:30 p.m.
The film’s director, Alana DeJoseph, will be present to discuss the film afterward.
Attendees can learn about both the Peace Corps itself and Missouri State’s Peace Corps Prep certificate program. Students who attend the viewing and are already in the program can apply their attendance toward their certification requirements.
About Peace Corps Prep
Students from all disciplines and departments can earn a Peace Corps Prep certificate while taking regular coursework. Earning the certificate demonstrates students have acquired skill sets related to one of the Peace Corps’ six sectors: Education, Health, Environment, Agriculture, Youth in Development and Community Economic Development.
“Missouri State is one of just 147 colleges and universities, from among 4,000+ possible institutions, with a Peace Corps Prep program,” according to Dr. Mary Willis, head of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Gerontology (SAG) and director of the certificate program.
Thirty students are currently pursuing the certificate. Four students earned their certificates in Spring 2023, and two of them have applied to the Peace Corps.
The event is open to the public and is sponsored by the Department of Communication, Media, Journalism and Film (CMJF); Community and Global Partnerships; the College of Education; the College of Natural and Applied Sciences; the Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities; and the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Gerontology. Refreshments will be provided.
