Bookstore Increases Student Body Elections Discount to 25%

The Missouri State Bookstore has announced a revision to its initial Student Body Elections discount, and will now be offering a 25% discount to the student body on all BearWear and Souvenirs through Tuesday, April 12th.

Previously, the Missouri State Bookstore had offered a discount related to the student voter turnout percent. 2,126 students participated in the elections, which totals approximately 10.2% of the student body.

Results of Student Body Elections Announced

On Wednesday, April 6th during the official watch party at Springfield Brewing Company, the Elections Commission of the Student Government Association (SGA) announced the results of the Student Body Elections held April 4-6.

For Student Body President and Vice-President, Scott Turk and Emily Bernet were elected. Victoria Culver was elected as the Senior Class President.

The student body also voted on three and passed two Wyrick Proposals. Projects will be funded by priority, which is determined by the number of “yes” votes each received.

SGA Constitutional Amendments and Wyrick Commission Guidelines Amendments were also voted on and approved by the student body.

 

The votes were cast as follows:

 

Student Body President and Vice President:

Scott Turk and Emily Bernet

Votes – 1,220

Sanctions Accrued – 40 votes

Total Votes  = 1,180 votes cast in favor of Scott Turk and Emily Bernet

 

Ally Layton and Emily Hollander

Votes – 738

Sanctions Accrued – 45 votes

Total Votes  = 693 votes cast in favor of Ally Layton and Emily Hollander

 

Senior Class President:

Victoria Culver

Received – 789 votes

Abstentions – 334 votes

Sanctions Accrued – 0 votes

Total votes = 789 cast in favor of Victoria Culver

 

SGA Constitutional Amendments:

Yes – 963

No – 131

Abstentions – 940

 

Wyrick Guidelines Amendments:

Yes – 875

No – 119

Abstentions – 1040

Bookstore Discounts for Student Body Elections

The Missouri State Bookstore has agreed to partner with the Student Government Association to encourage students to vote in this year’s Student Body Elections.

 

The Missouri State Bookstore will be offering a discount equal to the student voter turnout percent, up to 20% (4,168). If voter turnout reaches 35% (7,294), then the Missouri State Bookstore will increase the discount to 25% on all BearWear and Souvenirs, and if voter turnout reaches 50% (10,421), then the discount will increase to 30% on all Bear Wear and Souvenirs.

 

Students will be able to claim their discount on Monday, April 11th and Tuesday, April 12th.

Senate Approves Wyrick Changes and Constitutional Amendments for Inclusion on Ballot

On Tuesday, March 29th, the Senate of the Student Government Association passed resolutions that approved proposed changes to the Wyrick Commission Guidelines as well as proposed amendments to the Student Government Association Constitution.

 

As per Article VII, Section 3 of the Student Government Association Constitution, proposed amendments to the SGA Constitution will be ratified by a majority of the votes cast in the general student body referendum.  As per Section XII of the Wyrick Commission Guidelines, changes or amendments to the guidelines shall be ratified in like manner.

 

Students will have the opportunity to ratify these changes during the Student Body Elections, which will take place from Monday, April 4th at 12:01 a.m. until Wednesday, April 6th at 5:00 p.m.

 

Both amended documents can be found online at http://sga.missouristate.edu/elections/ and students are encouraged to make an informed decision during the elections.

Sustainability Commission Approves Two Proposals

On Friday, March 25th, The Sustainability Commission approved two proposals to be funded through the Sustainability Fund.

 

The Electric Vehicle proposal, submitted by Cedric Egbers, requested funds for the purchase of an ecologically friendly utility vehicle for the growing student recycling program. The vehicle will be used to collect recyclables from each building and transport them to the appropriate collection sites.

 

The Campus Garden proposal, submitted by Jacob Berger, is the first phase of a two-part project that lays the foundation for a small-scale organic garden on Missouri State’s campus. The garden will be located on the south side of Normal Street, and ground was broken last week.
