Student Government Association has recommended that a class be created that includes information regarding social entrepreneurship, social business, and social change efforts, and that this type of course be considered by the General Education Task Force for inclusion in the to-be-revised General Education program.
The Student Affairs Committee, headed by Director Katherine Shellenberg, noted student interest in such ideas as social change and social entrepreneurship (supported, in part, by the large turnout to Blake Mycoskie’s TOMS Shoes presentation in Fall 2010) and further noted that students would benefit from taking a class that emphasizes social entrepreneurship and the not-for-profit sector.
Dr. Belinda McCarthy, Provost, has also shown interest in a class that would encourage students to organize, create, and manage a venture to achieve social change.
