How would you like to score an international internship? Sounds good? If so, you have two great opportunities available.
The first is Global Experiences, which offers internships in England, Ireland, Australia, Spain, Italy, France and the United States. The second is Capital Interns, which offers internships in London, UK.
Global Experiences offers a structured internship experience with social events, sightseeing tours and shared residence hall accommodations. Students live with other interns from around the world, which heightens the international experience. Internship placement is available in many areas of business and is tailored to each student’s interests and needs. Students get to interview with a variety of companies and will have a say in their placement.
MSU student Cassie Artman was among those who participated last year. Artman says she was able to interview for her position via Skype before leaving the U.S. and was placed with Adevia Health Group. Artman had mentioned to Global Experiences that she wanted a placement that would help her develop more web programming skills and she is happy she made the request. “I’ve been able to learn some programs that aren’t well-known in the states, but that I’ll be able to bring back and introduce into my workplace,” she says. Artman was a computer information systems major and graduated in December 2012. She has accepted an IT position with Conoco-Philips and will start in June.
While Artman has never participated in a Capital Internship program, she learned about this opportunity during her time in London. Capital Interns, offers a less-structured experience and is probably best suited for students who want independence. Internship placement and apartment-style living with other interns is provided, but students also may choose to live with a host family as part of the home-style option. There aren’t any structured or planned experiences outside of the internship placement, leaving students free to see the sights on their own. With this option, internships are all London-based, which makes it a great option for those who only speak English.
