SGA Commissions Seeking Student Commissioners

September 18, 2012 by Riana Sears

The Student Government Association’s Elections, Wyrick and Sustainability Commissions are currently seeking students to serve during the 2012-13 academic year.

The Elections Commission reviews the Elections Manual, secures a timeline for the following election and researches how to increase voter turnout. The Elections Commission also reviews petitions for candidacy, evaluates actions that potentially violate the Elections Manual and validates the election results.

Student members of the Wyrick Commission will assist in researching and approving or rejecting proposals for projects submitted directly by students, such as the Parking Counters in Bear Park South.

Similarly, students serving on the Sustainability Commission are charged with assisting in the development of sustainability initiatives. This includes distributing the Sustainability Fund for projects, previously including the bike rental program and hydration stations.

Student commissioners cannot currently serve in the Student Government Association or be the President or Vice President of any other student organization.

Those interested in joining any of the commissions are encouraged to email SGA@missouristate.edu/

For more information, please contact Riana Sears, Chief Communications Officer at Riana21@live.missouristate.edu.

Elections Commission Seeks Student Commissioners

September 28, 2011 by Paige Oxendine

Missouri State University’s Elections Commission is currently seeking student commissioners interested in working with elections on campus. The Elections Commission plays an important role on campus, as it is the oversight for student body elections each spring.

The Elections Commission spends the fall semester reviewing the Elections Manual, determining a timeline for elections, and researching ways to increase voter turnout.

During the spring semester the Commission reviews petitions for candidacy, evaluates possible violations of the Elections Manual, and validates election results. The Commission also works with the Wyrick Commission to determine the way in which Wyrick Proposals are phrased on the ballot.

Student commissioners cannot currently be a part of Student Government Association or serving as the President or Vice President for any other student organization.

Anyone interested in joining the Elections Commission is encouraged to contact Tara Hammer, Chief Elections Commissioner, at Hammer636@live.missouristate.edu prior to October 7, 2011.
