Frost flowers

Frost flowers or ice flowers are formed when the ground is not frozen and water or sap in a plant freezes and creates a crack in the stem. Once the water breaks through the stem, it continues to freeze or grow out in a pattern that looks like a flower. Carol Zid, a Master Gardener from Mountain Grove, mentioned that she has seen several this year and took a photo of one of her flowers for our blog. Thanks Carol!
