John Rumfelt brought his weird looking Beauregard sweet potato vine in to the station wondering why it looked so strange. It is fasciated – flattened and ribbed – due to hormonal imbalance from a mutation or other factors. Fasciation is not contagious and John told Leslie Akers that the vines had a good amount of sweet potatoes. I have seen this symptom on highbush blueberry and apple branches, but this is the first time I saw a fasciated sweet potato!
