Crown gall in Chambourcin

May 14, 2019 by Marilyn Odneal

We unfortunately identified crown gall – Agrobacterium vitis – in our Chambourcin vines. We will manage the diseased vines for production for the time being – the disease is systemic and the vines cannot be cured. Crown gall symptoms occur when an infected vine is winter injured, giving the galls a chance to form. We will train up new trunks and manage multiple trunks of different ages to manage the vineyard.

The Chambourcin vine died from crown gall. Basal shoots will be trained up to replace the vine, but the disease is systemic.
