In Spring 2019, Dr. Jeff Jones Department Head of Finance and General Business, received an Assessment Grant for his project Assessing Barriers to Involvement in Student Organizations in FGB (Fiance and General Business). Dr. Jones explains that in his project, “We wish to identify barriers that prevent/discourage students from joining and actively participating in students organizations sponsored by the department. The best way to determine these barriers is to ask the students why they are (or are not) involved in a student organization via a student-led focus group. Once the barriers are identified, we can work to mitigate them. For example, if cost is an issue, we can potentially offer scholarships to cover membership fees. We believe involvement in a student organization improves student retention (particularly for first-generation college students), builds professional networks, and helps engender more affinity for the University post-graduation.”

The Office of Assessment recognizes and commends Dr. Jones’s efforts to improve the experience of his students while attending Missouri State.
