At the Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station

High Tunnel Open House

June 17, 2011 by Marilyn Odneal

About 90 people attended our High Tunnel Open House on Thursday, June 16. We  began the program at the Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station pavilion with a welcome from our Director, Dr. Anson Elliott. We then went up to the station’s  high tunnel where Norman Kilmer of Morgan County Seed and Joe Wright, Randy Stout, Jeremy Emery and Steven Turner discussed tunnel construction. Craig Pisarkiewicz of MPR Irrigation then presented information on high tunnel irrigation systems. Martin Kaps and Susanne Howard talked about the vegetable crops in the tunnel and John Avery and Marilyn Odneal covered the fruit and flower crops. We then traveled to Simpson’s Family Farm where Wayne Simpson and Deb French talked about the construction of their high tunnel and the production and marketing of their vegetable crops.  (photos by Sylvia Carter, Susanne Howard and Marilyn Odneal)
