Yesterday and today, we planted the raspberries in grow bags for a project where they will be rotated in a high tunnel planting area after early season vegetable crops have produced. This new project is entitled “High Tunnel Production Rotation of Primocane Bearing Raspberries in Grow Bags” and is funded by a Missouri Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant.

One gallon of Fafard 52 media was put on the bottom of the bag. Then the raspberry plant was put in after roots were trimmed if needed. A total of 4 gallons of media was put in each 5 gallon bag.

The raspberries planted were Josephine, Polka, Joan J., and Himbo Top. We will receive Crimson Giant Raspberry in early May to complete the trial. We also planted Prime Ark Freedom blackberry to include in the trial for observation.

The bags are lined up in the center. They will be arranged in a randomized block and shifted to the planting area on the right once the vegetables are harvested.
