Our hardworking faculty and staff are the most important ingredients in Missouri State’s recipe for success. Retaining employees becomes ever more important each year.
Later this week, full-time faculty and staff will see one employee retention initiative that we implemented last spring. Full-time faculty and staff members (including auxiliary and grant-funded employees) will receive a $700 retention payment in their August 2018 paycheck. To be eligible to receive this one-time payment, you must hold a full-time position on Aug. 1, 2018 and have been employed in a full-time position on or before Jan. 1, 2018.
While the university allocated $1.8 million from reserves to fund these retention payments, we know that our work is far from done. Compensation continues to be a priority. The executive budget committee will meet next month to begin discussions about a mid-year compensation increase for employees.
Strong enrollment
When fall classes began last week, we had 21,309 students enrolled on the Springfield campus. This is a very strong enrollment report, making fall 2018 our second highest opening enrollment ever, falling only 42 students shy of our record set in fall 2017. Universities throughout the state posted significant enrollment decreases. For example, enrollment at the University of Missouri-Columbia shrunk by more than 1,100 students, falling below 30,000 for the first time in more than a decade.
Enrollment continues to be a priority as we work to grow the university. Enrollment growth allows us to press toward our vision of being the university of choice to develop successful students. Enrollment revenue also allows us to fund important initiatives that drive academic excellence and student success. This revenue also allows us to fund compensation increases for faculty and staff, invest in facility projects and meet other needs throughout campus.
Our strong enrollment record is thanks to the hard work of our faculty and staff.
Thanks for all you do for Missouri State!
