As you walk on campus, you can see plenty of work going on with the Roy Blunt Hall addition and renovation.

The project has been slowed down a bit by recent inclement weather, but the construction team is working hard to catch up and making good progress.

• The first-floor deck is near completion.
• The second floor will start rising in the next couple of weeks.
• Much of the work has been related to utility infrastructure on the south side and the basement of the facility.

If you’ve seen the slab on the south side of the building and are wondering what it’s for, it’s a mock-up of the exterior skin of the addition. It helps to work through constructability issues and make material selections.

Also, the tower crane has been set up, which may be the only construction crane in Springfield currently. This is a good sign of progress.

While this project is a major one with a busy construction site, the team has done a great job maintaining a clean site with minimal impact to ongoing classes and research in the existing building.

Making sustainability a priority

Thus far, most of the activity has involved demolition, excavation and concrete work.

One area of focus by Missouri State and the construction team is sustainability, primarily related to waste. To date, almost 14 tons of waste have been produced, with over 99% of 75 different material streams being diverted from the landfill!

An update on new BOG members

New Board of Governors (BOG) member Dr. Melissa (Missy) Gourley was approved by the Missouri Senate. The other new member, Travis Freeman, is waiting for the Senate’s vote. We hope this will happen by next week.
