There’s something uniquely Missourian about the state fair. It brings together agriculture, education, innovation and community in one place. That’s why it’s such a natural fit for Missouri State University. This year, we’re proud to return with an even larger presence as we welcome alumni, future Bears and fairgoers from across the state.

When you’re visiting the fair, stop by our booth in the agriculture building. Whether you’re a proud alum, a prospective student or simply curious about Missouri State, it’s a great opportunity to meet our faculty, staff and students and learn what makes our university unique. You’ll also find some fun along the way with activities, a selfie station and chances to win prizes.

Support the show team

The fair is also a chance to celebrate one of our greatest strengths: agriculture. The William H. Darr College of Agriculture prepares students for careers that are essential to Missouri’s future, combining classroom learning with hands-on experiences at the Darr Agricultural Center and Journagan Ranch.

One of the best examples of that is our MSU Beef Show Team. The team provides students with hands-on experience preparing, fitting, exhibiting and marketing seedstock cattle while representing Missouri State at livestock shows across the region. At the fair, they’ll showcase the genetics and performance of the Hereford herd from Journagan Ranch while demonstrating the professionalism, leadership and practical skills they’re developing for careers in the beef industry.

If you’re attending the fair, I encourage you to stop by the Hereford barn Aug. 13-15 to see the team’s cattle, then come back the morning of Aug. 16 to cheer them on as they compete. It’s a unique opportunity to support our students.

Join us for Missouri State Day

Mark your calendar for Aug. 15, when we celebrate Missouri State Day at the fair. I hope you’ll stop by our booth and, if you’re an alum, friend or future Bear, join us for our free cookout at 6 p.m. in the VIP tent. We’ll celebrate the legacy of Journagan Ranch and recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the show team.

The Missouri State Fair celebrates the best of our state. I’m proud that Missouri State is helping shape its future.

I hope you’ll join me at the fair and thanks for checking in. It’s always a great day to be a Bear!
