The Springfield Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the 1200 block of east Cherry Street. According to police, it appears there was a dispute between neighbors, which led to the shooting. Police indicated this was an isolated incident and there is not a threat to campus.

On June 11, 2021 at 8:10 a.m., a white male with a mohawk entered the Glo dry cleaner, 530 S. National Ave, and gave a note to the clerk. The note read that the suspect had a gun and demanded money. The clerk did not see a gun and gave the male a small amount of cash. The suspect left and headed north bound on National Ave. Springfield Police officers responded to the area and began looking for the suspect.

Shortly after 9:00 a.m., an MSU substation officer located the suspect north of campus and arrested him
