Dr. Jeanie Skibiski: Assessment of Learning in the Rural Anesthesia Rotation
Dr. Jeanie Skibiski, Assistant Professor in the School of Anesthesia, received an Assessment Grant for her project, Assessment of Learning in the Rural Anesthesia Rotation. This project will enhance student learning by identifying common rural anesthesia clinical experiences and what experiences students might not be getting in their rotation. The assessment will provide a compilation of these experiences through the assessment of the rural anesthesia rotation.
Dr. Skibiski explains, “Nurse Anesthetists are often the sole provider of anesthesia in rural hospital settings. Students from the Missouri State School of Anesthesia must complete a 3 month rotation through a rural setting in one of 5 states prior to graduation. Each site offers varying types of practices, and this assessment will help to identify common experiences. Results will provide feedback to site coordinators to help identify any needed program changes.”
The Office of Assessment recognizes the efforts of the School of Anesthesia to assess the rural anesthesia experience and ensure that CRNAs are able to provide anesthesia in any setting. We commend their dedication to providing the best possible program for their students.
