On Tuesday, September 16th, Faculty Senate approved a revision plan for the evaluation of general education courses. The Council on General Education and Intercollegiate Programs (CGEIP) has been working to streamline the general education evaluation process and make reports easier to complete and more useful for coordinators.
Here’s what you need to know about how gen ed evaluation will work for the 2019-2020 academic year: Instead of annual reports, general education coordinators will now be required to submit a report biennially only. This year, reports are due from Natural World and Public Affairs gen ed coordinators. Additionally, instead of focusing on Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) in the report, coordinators will be asked to assess outcomes for General Goals. Lastly, reports will now focus on evidence of student learning rather than assessment methodology.
CGEIP should review reports by January in order to determine the effects of these changes to the process. We anticipate that by taking into consideration faculty feedback on the reporting process and shifting the focus of reports to student learning, reports will prove more insightful for faculty and students alike.
To make this process as easy as possible CGEIP is hosting two joint meetings with Gen Ed Course Coordinators.
