Freshman fifteen- is it a myth or is it real? Studies show that although gaining 15 pounds freshman year is unlikely, weight gain tends to happen the first year of college. The culprit? New Dietary Guidelines Support Healthy Choices for All Americans

The USDA recently released the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines.  The five main guidelines are listed below.  The emphasis of the guidelines is on a healthy eating pattern that includes fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy, grains and oils.  It is recommended to limit saturated and trans fats, added sugars and sodium. A Day at the Farm – Got Milk?

Quinoa for Athletes

For our BMS 430 Sports Nutrition potluck, we had some great food creations.  One student developed her own "bowl" with beans and rice and another made "cookie dough dip" out of chickpeas.
