Indeterminate tomato cultivars were planted in the high tunnel today for the Greenhouse and High Tunnel Workshop demonstrations. Cultivars included were Sun Gold on own roots, Sun Gold on Maxifort rootstock, Super Sweet 100, Sweet Treats Hybrid, Early Girl Hybrid and Goliath Cluster Hybrid. Today Karly and Makayla prepared the straw to use as substrate for mushroom production in polyethylene bags. The first step was to chop the straw into 3 to 5 inch pieces by running it through a small wood chipper. Makayla and Karly grafted Sun Gold tomato onto Maxifort rootstocks today. If successful, these grafted Sun Gold tomatoes will be planted next to their un-grafted counterparts to see if there is a difference in growth.
