In April, the Marketing Department hosted it’s annual Advisory Board Meeting at Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield. It was another insightful meeting, as discussion centered on what MSU Marketing students bring to the table and what we need to move toward.
What MSU Marketing Department and students bring to the table:
- Hands-on activities and projects that deal with real client/marketing needs
- Well-rounded students that understand and can do things that aren’t necessarily in their emphasis
- Knowledge of current technologies; they are great at keeping up with current and changing technology trends, and they’re not afraid to try new things (technology related or otherwise)
Moving Forward:
- Students should be able to answer: What is big data? What is the end goal of it? What are you looking for from big data? More big data classes should be included in curriculum that address such questions
- Students need to expand their network and don’t be afraid to ask questions, especially in an interview setting
- Social media isn’t everything and traditional media is still valuable and heavily used in marketing
Thank you to all of the board members, faculty, and staff who helped make the day a success. See you in 2016.
