In Spring 2019, Dr. Jason Jolley Department Head of Modern & Classical Languages and Associate Dean of Diversity, Globalization, and Policy, was awarded an Assessment Grant for his project Improvement of L2 Writing Assessment in Online Courses. In his project, Dr. Jolley will have participants respond “to a questionnaire designed to determine whether language instructors can reliably detect machine translation use in L2 writing assignments.”
Dr. Jolley explains that “this project will enhance student learning b informing recommendations or best practices for the assessment of unproctored L2 writing. Results from the project will also allow for the elaboration and sharing of best practices or recommendations for responsible student use of machine translation.”
The Office of Assessment would like to thank Dr. Jolley for his hard work to improve student learning.
