Judith Martinez: Uses and Impact of Social Media (Instagram) on Spanish as a Foreign Language Acquisition
Judith Martinez, Assistant Professor in Modern and Classical Languages, was recently awarded an Assessment of Student Learning Grant for her project, “Uses and Impact of Social Media (Instagram) on Spanish as a Foreign Language Acquisition.” This project will assess student learning through surveys, exit cards, testimonies, and percentage of student engagement, evaluating learning experiences outside the classroom with social media platforms.
Ms. Martinez explains, “I would like to provide more opportunities outside the classroom for my students to be exposed to the Spanish Language. I would also like to take advantage of what they already use, and what is familiar to them such as their phone and “Insta stories” and use that platform to maximize their learning experience outside the classroom and increase their engagement and motivation.”
The Office of Assessment appreciates the work of the Modern and Classical Languages Department to find innovative ways to retain students in the program, increase student engagement and cultural competence, and assess student learning.
